Las Cruces police investigate reports of shooting, stabbing
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14) —
An investigation into a shooting and stabbing continued Wednesday after police found two men injured in a Las Cruces neighborhood.
An 18-year-old man was shot and a 37-year-old man was wounded after he was stabbed multiple times around 11 a.m., said police.
Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Keathley Drive. They discovered that the incident had happened at a home and found the two men at the scene injured.
KFOX14 spoke to neighbors who called police after they heard the argument between the two men.
They did not wish to have their identities released, but they tell us something like this is their worst fear, especially having children who live and play in this neighborhood.
“It’s been progressively getting worse over the years; I’ve noticed a lot of riffraff, I guess you can say, and people just strolling through the neighborhood who don’t have any business really being here,” a neighbor said.
One woman who did not want to be identified went outside, that’s when she found a man on the sidewalk.
She offered to call an ambulance but the man told the woman he was OK; unsure, she dialed 911.
When police arrived they found two men suffering from different injuries.
Police say one man was shot. The 18-year-old was airlifted to the University Medical Center in El Paso.
The other man is 37 years old and had multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital.
Other neighbors in the area did not want to be identified but they shared their concerns with KFOX14.
“It is very concerning especially being a father and I’m not really too concerned about my safety as I am my nieces, nephew, and son,” a neighbor said.
Residents tell me, this used to be a safe neighborhood.

Police say the two men do not have life threatening injuries. It is still unclear whether the men were victims.
“This neighborhood, there are a lot of good people, there are a lot of hard-working people and they shouldn’t have to go through this,” the neighbor said.
