A woman was arrested after police said she punched a 14-year-old girl who got into a fight with her daughter.

The incident happened Monday morning at the bus stop on the corner of Valleyview Avenue and Harrison Street.

Police say Brandy Nicole Tapia’s daughter and other students were at the bus stop waiting for the school bus when a boy asked Tapia’s daughter if it was true that her mother got into a fight over the weekend.

The question sparked an argument and Tapia’s daughter left the bus stop. The girl then returned with her mother in a black Jaguar.

Tapia pulled up to the bus stop and yelled at the children, investigators said. Tapia allegedly told the boy who asked about the fight to go get his mother so that she could beat her up.

Investigators said the 14-year-old girl went up to Tapia’s car and told her to leave. The argument escalated and Tapia’s daughter got out of the vehicle and got into a physical fight with the 14-year-old.

Tapia also got out of the vehicle, grabbed the 14-year-old girl and punched her in the face, investigators said.

Witnesses told investigators that Tapia and her daughter got back into the vehicle and drove away.

The 14-year-old and her friends reported the incident to authorities when they arrived at Vista Hill Middle School.

Tapia was arrested Monday and charged with one count of child abuse and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond.
