Investigation underway after Las Cruces police officer shoots aggressive dog

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14 / CBS4) —
Police are investigating a shooting involving a Las Cruces officer and a dog that occurred Monday morning.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. on the 1200 block of South Valley Drive.
Police said an officer was investigating a suspicious vehicle that was parked behind a business when a pit bull charged at the officer.
The officer fired his service weapon at least once and struck the dog, police said.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment but was later euthanized.
