Human remains found in Mesilla Park home

Human remains were found inside a home in Mesilla Park.

Detectives with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 1000 block of Conway Avenue after a woman reported finding human remains Tuesday morning.

Detectives said the remains appear to be human jawbones and were found inside a box.

It is believed that the bones, which appear to be very old, were dug up from an unknown location, detectives said.

The home belonged to Gaylord Bird, who died in January.

The Sheriff’s Office said Bird left the home to a neighbor, who had started clearing out the house.

The remains have been sent to the medical examiner’s office for identification and to determine if any crime was committed.
