Group sets out to restore Shadow Mountain Lake
EL PASO, Texas - A group of veterans is working to bring back Shadow Mountain Lake near Horizon City.
The American Patriots at Shadow Mountain Lake plans to purchase and restore the property to its former prime condition.
Longtime Borderland residents may recall that more than 25 years ago, the lake was a popular hangout for folks looking to cool off and go for a swim.
Once restored, the nonprofit group plans to develop the area as a retreat for wounded warriors and other veterans.
"The more we get the community involved and local organizations and companies and corporations. Like I said, donations are huge and the volunteers. We're looking for volunteer support to get this place cleaned up and looking ship shape again," said Tony Lang, director of the group.
The park will also be open to the public for recreation with the fees charges being used to support the park and hire disabled veterans.
The organization will hold an open house for those interested in helping out this weekend.
