Friends of the man who died in Northeast El Paso are coming to terms with their loss
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) —
People in the Northeast are still in shock after hearing about a shooting that left one man dead in their neighborhood.
Police confirmed that around 3 a.m. Monday, they received a call about shots fired in the 5200 block of Wren Avenue near Irvin High School.
Police found a man dead in the parking lot.
Neighbor Patty Rascon walked out of her home greeted with police lights, caution tape and several blocked roads.
“I got up to go to the bathroom and then I see some lights flashing on my wall. I looked outside and thought something must be going on,” said Rascon.
Cynthia Cruz said police would not give her access to her home due to the ongoing investigation.
“If they obstruct it, they will have to do it all over again so that’s why they are just keeping people out,” said Cruz.
Devarique Brown and Shante Brown said they knew the man who died.
“It’s sad because that was our friend. We just talked to him the other day. As a matter of fact last night we were just together,” said Devarique Brown.
The sisters said they are heartbroken about the death of their friend.
“It’s just sad because all of our friends are dying,” said Shante Brown.
Police said this will be investigated as the third murder this year.
Overall, residents said they want more to be done by police to prevent crimes like this from happening in the future.
“I would like more community involvement and more policing,” said a resident who did not want to be on camera.
Police have not yet released the name of the man who died.
KFOX14 also reached out to the Housing Authority of El Paso who confirmed that the murder scene was near one of their housing units but not on their property
