El Pasoan in path of Hurricane Harvey prepares for damage
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) —
An El Pasoan and her husband are directly in the path of incoming Hurricane Harvey.
Ann Miller, a member of our station’s sales team, planned a trip to visit her parents in Corpus Christi and decided to keep the plans as Hurricane Harvey strengthened.
“We wanted to come even more because we didn’t want them to wait out the storm alone. It’s difficult to move elderly people when they have health conditions,” Miller said. “We weighed everything back and forth. Ultimately, we decided to wait it out.”
As of about 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, Miller said the palm trees outside the condo where they are staying were taking a beating from the wind and debris was already starting to blow around.
Miller said they’ve prepared as much as possible before Hurricane Harvey hits land.
“We’re in a concrete building that was designated a hurricane shelter for Corpus Christi anyways, so it’s a very safe building,” she said.
The group has plenty of food and water to make it a few days once the storm hits, according to Miller.
The storm intensified to a Category 4 hurricane Friday afternoon, meaning winds can reach speeds between 130 and 156 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.
