El Paso 'The Voice' contestant Elia Esparza talks about experience

El Paso native Elia Esparza

Elia Esparza, an Americas High School graduate, impressed "The Voice's" panel of judges on Monday.

She sang Selena’s hit “Como la Flor” in Spanish.

“I wanted to show a part of me that a lot of people don’t know. I was so nervous,” said Esparza. “The chance to sing in front of four superstars was a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

Esparza chose to be on Adam Levine’s team.

“(Levine) is really cool and such a rock star," Esparza said.

The 23-year-old said she left El Paso to pursue a singing career in New York.

Esparza is scheduled to perform at 10 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Lowbrow Palace, 111 E. Robinson, in downtown El Paso.

She said the next song she sings on "The Voice" also won’t be one that people are expecting.
