El Paso High to host tunnel tour fundraiser

Tunnel tours will be held this Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at the school. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.

For the El Paso High School Alumni Association, $200,000 is the magic number. This is the amount it will take to renovate their latest project. This past week, the alumni said they reached an agreement with the El Paso Independent School District to lease the former custodian house at El Paso High School.

Once renovations are complete, the house will be used as a center for alumni. The museum that is currently housed inside the school will be moved to the center as well, according to a past president of the El Paso High School Alumni Association, Linda Troncoso.

“Thank goodness to the board, they have already agreed with the school board and we have leased the old custodian's house as the alumni center,” said Troncoso.

Multiple fundraisers are being held to help with the upcoming cost. The latest fundraiser has a unique and spooky twist.

Tunnel tours will be held this Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at the school. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.

“It’s pretty scary, I have to say, because we do have the legendary ghosts here and the stories of ghosts and pictures of ghosts and everyone has their experience with ghosts here, and the tunnels are where the ghosts live,” said Progga Hassan, a senior at El Paso High School.

The Alumni Association will be selling tickets at the school Wednesday to Friday. If you want to contact the Alumni Association, you can do so through their Facebook page or email Linda Troncoso at ltroncoso@aol.com

Tours are on a first-come, first-served basis.
