Las Cruces woman found dead pinned underneath her car

Las Cruces woman hit by car
A 62-year-old woman has died after police say she was found pinned underneath her car Thursday morning.
Police say the call came in just before 10 a.m. and officers who responded to the scene found Jill Thompson dead on Wild Bill Lane in East Mesa just off Highway 70.
KFOX14 spoke to neighbors, who are really shaken up over what happened.
One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said the woman enjoyed working on her cars.
He added, when he saw her underneath her car today, he thought she was just working on it.
“All I see was movements and I took those movements as normal movements at first. Now I think back, they were her probably her dying, twitching moments and I’m like, 'Ugh.' It flashed through my eyes now. I can’t believe I didn’t run over there,” the neighbor said.
The Thompson's body was discovered by her sister, who heard the car running near the driveway.
“She seems like a really good person and everything so I’m just, like, in shock. Who would have known? By 9:30 a.m. it was over. It just blows my mind,” a neighbor said.
Investigators believe the woman may have unknowingly started her 1974 Plymouth while it was in reverse instead of park.
Police say the driveway was level enough for Thompson not to notice until she got out of the car to open the gate at the bottom of her driveway.
That’s when police believe the car rolled on top of her.
“Accidents happen and people can get hit by stuff. It’s kinda scary to think about. It’s really sad,” neighbor Michael Whiting said.
Police said they tested the woman's car to see if it would start in reverse and they found that it did, which led them to believe this was all just a tragic accident.
