A large water main break in central El Paso caused water to enter some residents’ homes Tuesday afternoon.

According to the El Paso Water outage map, the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Arizona Avenue and Rosewood Street near Armendariz Middle School.

Viewers sent KFOX14 photos of the water main break showing flooded streets and at least one home with a flooded yard.

"I was watching television and all of a sudden I heard a loud bang," said Robert Priego, whose home was damaged by the flood. "Within seconds I heard another loud bang and I opened up my door and saw water up to my car."

Priego said most of the damage was to his backyard and a shed. The water came down from Kentucky Avenue and piled up in his front yard and backyard.

Other neighbors didn't get flood damage but have been without water for over five hours.

"I tried to take a shower when I got home from work, but my water didn't work," said Cyndi Campos, whose apartment was right next to the water main break. "I looked outside and saw that the water was running all over Arizona Street. Hopefully they can get the water on by the end of the night."

El Paso Water said about 20 customers were affected and it is not known how long the repair will take.
