The Las Cruces Police Department is growing.

A graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday will move up 10 police cadets to officers.

The graduation ceremony starts at 2 p.m in the Auditorium of the Dona Ana Branch Community College’s East Mesa Campus on 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

Edgar Abundis, Austin Arnold, Edwin Gallardo, Jason Hayes, Jameal Landrum, Cuitlahuac Ortiz, D’Anthany Roohr, Brandon Roybal, Maria Visconti and Francis Whitten will be graduating.

This is the 46th46th commencement ceremony for Las Cruces Police Department.

The academy’s 22- week-week educational program provides the cadets with more than 1,000 hours of law enforcement training and education.

The program is divided into two parts;: 75 percent of the course focuses on classroom instruction and 25 percent focuses of actual field training in and around Las Cruces.

The LCPD will be accepting applications this spring for the upcoming training in the fall of this year, Las Cruces Police Department spokesman said.
