It’s not officially summertime yet, but temperatures would prove otherwise.

This week we’ve hit triple-digit temperatures, as today reached 105 degrees.

“Let’s hope it doesn’t last, right? It’s only the beginning of June so we’ve got a lot of summer left,” Las Cruces resident Steven Morrison said.

There was no luck finding any clouds in the sky today as the sun beamed down on Las Cruces.

KFOX14 spoke with a woman traveling through the area back to California who said today felt like the hottest day of the year.

“As we were walking, I kept telling her there’s something different, I feel the sun just breathing down my neck, I have to rush to every shade,” Karla Plancart said.

Many people were quick to find shade wherever it was available.

A mother and her son decided to cool off with some ice cream before running through the sprinklers.

“A lot of ice cream chocolate ice cream is his favorite. I’d stay outside and basically do anything that has shade but the splash pad is the number one thing with the kiddos and hydrating them,” Vanessa Torres said.

Others said how important it was for them to stay hydrated throughout the day.

“I drink about 100 ounces of water every day. You gotta hydrate hydrate hydrate,” Ron Johnson said.

Some were surprised that businesses in town were doubling up on the amount of water they gave out.

“It makes sense now they have us a trenta (large) water, usually they get the small cups she’s like, ‘oh wow they’re really generous here we had the trenta (large) water now it makes sense they don’t want us to faint,” Plancart said.

Temperatures from now on will only continue to get hotter as we get closer to the summertime.

If you plan on exercising outside, experts said it’s important to plan your workout either in the morning or evenings when it’s cooler out.
