It’ll be up to Las Cruces voters to pass a $50 million general obligation bond that will help benefit Las Cruces Public Schools.

People in Las Cruces will get to decide whether the $50 million will go toward schools throughout the Las Cruces district.

If the bond is passed, the money would be used on new classrooms, safety and security updates, school renovations, and technology upgrades districtwide.

Today KFOX14 spoke with people who say they plan on voting for the bond.

"The whole economy of our town and our state depends on the education of our students, as a citizen of Las Cruces of course I'm going to support money that goes to the education of our children,” Maria Elena Chavez said.

"Maybe it would rank our state a little bit better. We could get kids into better colleges. I think it's great, I think all people should vote for this, I think it would be fantastic. As a citizen I'm all for it,” Jack Lopez said.

Early and absentee voting for the $50 million bond election will be from Jan. 6 to Feb. 2 of 2018.

Election day is Feb. 6.
