Adopt a Shelter Cat Month
June is just a few days away and it's a special month for feline friends in shelters it's national adopt a shelter cat month.
According to the ASPCA more households have dogs versus cats nationwide.
Every year around 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. Animal shelters of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
More than half are adopted and more lost pets are returned each year but despite adoption efforts and no kill movements
more than 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized; 670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats.
Local shelters and animal advocates told KFOX14 there are more ways than one to help felines in our community.
If you're considering adding a pet pal to your family, you can adopt. Local shelters will have adoption adoption promotions including El Paso Animal Services who will be hosting free cat adoptions throughout the month of June.
If you can't adopt you can house a cat or kitten temporarily by fostering or volunteer at a local shelter and help in their cattery.
You can also help feral cats in the borderland as a cat colony manager assisting with the trap spay and neuter program through Sun City Cats.
