Weekend events happening Sept. 8-10

Weekend events is a weekly Friday segment on the KFOX-14 Morning News, hosted by Kelly Anne Beile. 

Dogcruces Pet Expo takes place at the Las Cruces Convention Center on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees may expect a pet carnival and demonstrations, special shows and vendors sharing services especially for your four-legged friends. Admission is $5 for those ages 5 and older. More information is available at

The Mexican Food Fiesta takes place on Sept. 9 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. in San Jacinto Plaza. Dozens of food and drink vendors will be on site with food that you can purchase with special tokens. The mercadito will have retail vendors and there will also be a live art competition from local and regional artists, courtesy of Upper Valley Urgent Care. The Miller Lite music stage will host a variety of mariachi bands and folklorico dancers. Visit the Charlie Clark Nissan display and signup tent for a chance to win $25, $50, $75 or $100 gas cards.

The event is $3 to enter or FREE with a Metro PCS coupon, available at all Metro PCS stores in the El Paso area.

The event will take over all of San Jacinto plaza, Mills St., Main St. and Oregon St. in downtown El Paso. For easy access, park in the Mills Parking Garage.

The West Health Fest is a family-friendly event on Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is hosted by Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso (TTP El Paso) and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso). The event aims to promote health, wellness, and fitness by offering free health screenings, cooking demonstrations, zumba and yoga classes, an inflatable obstacle course, and more.

The highlight of the West Health Fest is the Texas Tech Fitness Challenge. The CrossFit-inspired workout challenges participants to complete a 250-meter row, followed by six to eight tire flips. Participants will then pull a sled (95 pounds for males, 65 pounds for females) and race the clock to finish off the challenge with burpees (15 reps for males, 10 reps for females). First, second, and third place winners will be announced based on fastest times for each event.

Gift card giveaways valued at $150, $200, $250 and $1,000 will be announced every hour. Winners must be present to win. Admission is free. The festival takes place at TTP El Paso’s newest clinic in far west El Paso.
