Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17.

The holiday falls on a Friday this year, and there are multiple celebrations scheduled across the Borderland.

St. Patrick Cathedral in El Paso celebrates its 100th anniversary on Thursday. Festivities kick off with a dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn for clergy, ministry leaders and people who were baptized or married at least 50 years ago. The dinner will be hosted by Russ Vandenburg.

Bishop Mark Seitz will host Mass at 9 a.m. Friday with students of St. Patrick Cathedral School to commemorate the Feast Day of St. Patrick. A parade will follow at 11 a.m. with area Catholic schools. Evening Mass will be held at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.

The St. Patrick Cathedral Centennial 5k run is scheduled at 8 a.m. Saturday. The first 250 people who register will receive shirts.

Guided tours will also be available Saturday and Sunday every hour on the hour. The 45-minute tours will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

One of the largest St. Patrick's Day festivals in the Borderland is scheduled at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss. The 3-day event features Irish cuisine, a beer garden, traditional Irish music, bagpipes and family-oriented activities. Admission is free. Ardovino's Desert Crossing will host its 13th annual St. Patrick's Day Party. Live music by the San Patricios and The Fox and the Sound, along with traditional Irish food and drink, fill out the evening. Doors to Sunset Hall open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call 575-589-0653, extension 3, for more information.

There will be live music from Digital Underground's Money B and Young Hump. General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The event starts at 4 p.m.
