Man’s pockets filled with meth, heroin, caught shoplifting, police say

A man suspected of shoplifting was arrested on Tuesday after stealing $635 worth of electronics from Best Buy, Las Cruces police said.

Thomas Gunter, 32, was caught removing anti-theft devices from electronics at the Best Buy store at 2280 E. Lohman Ave, police said.

Police said they believe Gunter had intentions to sealsteal the items to get illegal drugs.

When police took Gunter into custody, they said they found methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia in his pocket.

He is facing charges of larceny over $500, trafficking heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gunter was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a bond set at $8,000.
