Scoop on Savings: spring break on a budget

Spring break is upon us, and there are many ways to save on a trip.

First, if you have the option to drive to your destination, do it.

U.S. News and World Report says that with low gas prices all over the country, it’s an ideal time to take a road trip.

And while gas prices usually rise in the spring, you’re still saving big over flying.

If you plan to stay in the U.S. for your vacation, a great place to visit on a budget is Washington, D.C.

According to the Travel Channel, it doesn’t cost a penny to enjoy D.C.’s culture and history.

That’s especially true during the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The 2-week festival in early April includes free events like cultural performances, fireworks and parades.

But if you’re dead set on catching some waves at the beach for spring break, try a trip to Key West, Florida.

Waterfront hotels go for over $300 a night.

But you can opt for Airbnb rentals within walking distance of the beach for as low as $60 a night.

If you want to stay in El Paso for spring break, we’ve got tons of options for students and parents.

You can see what’s available here.
