How to save on Super Bowl beer

The biggest game of the year is almost here, and many people will be hosting Super Bowl parties at home.

But hosting a Super Bowl party isn’t always cheap, especially when it comes to buying beer.

Growlers are a good way and to save on your favorite craft beer.

Customers can either purchase a growler or bring their own to Craft and Social in downtown El Paso.

On Sundays, it’s $2 cheaper to fill a growler.

One 64-ounce growler is the equivalent of five glasses of beer at the bar or about a 2-liter soda bottle.

According to Craft and Social’s general manager, Omar Vazquez, in order to drive with a filled growler in Texas, the growler must be sealed.

“Because of Texas law the way it is, if I fill it up, I have to tape it up,” Vazquez said. “Kind of making it impossible for you to open up, as long as it’s sealed.”

But craft beer isn’t for everyone.

Below are price comparisons of some popular commercial beers in the borderland.

Between Bud Light and Corona, the best deals come straight out of Walgreens.

The Las Cruces location on El Paso Road sells a case of Bud Light for $19.99, and Walgreens in El Paso sells a 20-pack, with four fewer beers, for the same price.

Corona is also cheaper in Las Cruces.

Customers can get a case of Bud Light at Spec's for the least amount of money, spending only $21.80 and $15.78 on Corona.

The next cheapest roughly a tie between New Mexico’s Side Door Liquor Store and El Paso’s WB Liquors and Wine.
