Motivation Monday: Tai Chi breathing techniques

Tai chi isn't just for older people looking for some light exercise at the park. Though that's the visual association many of us often tend to make, there is a lot to know about the benefits of this martial arts form.

So this week we return to the Shaolin Wu Shu Kung Fu Academy with Sigung Perez to learn more about this practice. Perez says itai chi is often underrated and misunderstood, especially as there is a combat and weapons aspect of tai chi.

But the foundation of tai chi is based on wellness from the inside out. What that means in simple terms is that breathing is the backbone of tai chi in all its applications, both holistic and in self-defense.

In our next segment we'll explore the fighting applications, and how the wellness and fighting aspects come together.
