Motivation Monday: Rossfit

{ }A program called Rossfit allows boys and girls in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades to participate in a rigorous exercise program that simulates Crossfit.

The "proving grounds" at Ross Middle School in central El Paso are real. Coach Bobby Macias gave that name to a large area on school property where a program called Rossfit allows boys and girls in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades to participate in a rigorous exercise program that simulates Crossfit.

It is the only type of organized athletic activity of its kind in the El Paso School District. In this segment of Motivation Monday, photojournalist Rudy Reyes and I participated in the program with about 40 middle school students.

This segment shows what kind of workout the students commit themselves to four times a week. The program operates in part on federal grants that help support military students, but it also benefits all the children at the school and relies on donations from the public.
