Gear Friday: Roses
It's Gear Friday and there's no better gear than knowledge when it comes to growing roses. The best place to get it, is right under your nose at the El Paso Municipal Rose Garden.
There are 430 different kinds of rose bushes at the garden, which was first opened in 1958. It sits on 4 acres of land and can be rented out for events, including birthday parties.
The Rose Garden itself is cared for by the El Paso Master Gardener Committee, whose members are happy to answer the public's questions. Denise Rodriguez, who is an El Paso County Extension agent, said, "What the master gardeners will do is prune all the roses here at the garden and then showcase those best techniques to the public so they can go home and then be successful in their own garden,."
The El Paso Rose Society is also instrumental to the public outreach and education on how to care for roses at home. The garden itself is open to the public each year from March 1 through Nov. 30, and you can take a self guided tour throughout the garden. It's open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
