Carpe: El Paso poppies

The Mexican Gold Poppy is native to the Borderland.

John White, UTEP horticulturalist, said even though the poppy is considered a type of weed, it’s one of the prettiest sights along the Franklin Mountains.

“Weeds maybe in some people’s eyes but wild flowers are something spectacular and with El Paso everybody looks forward to the poppy bloom,” White said.

You can plant the poppy seeds at home and they will bloom regardless of the local weather. Wednesday White will show you how to grow them in your yard.
