Carpe Diem: Free Art Classes
If you're looking for something to do during the winter break the El Paso Museum of Art has something for kids, teens and adults. It's free and you don't even have to sign up. In addition to the art classes the El Paso Museum of Art offers on a regular basis, the museum has now added free drop in classes during traditional school breaks. The classes are a great opportunity for everyone to spend some time developing creative skills, and for kids to spend time away from technology.
We attended two classes, one on stained glass design and the other on water color painting. The classes were a mix of families with young children and teens. Teenagers don't have to be with their parents to attend the class.
The free drop-in classes are good for the museum too. Inspiring an interest in art in the community is helping the museum to grow its adult and teen classes and camps. Right now the museum offers three classes for teens and adults: ceramics, encaustic, which is painting with wax, and painting. Those classes require a fee and signup. But the free drop-in classes are about two hours long, you don't have to sign up, the materials are provided and they start at noon. Each class is different and you can find the offerings on the museum's website.
